Washington City Veterans Memorial
This
beautiful monument came about through efforts of local citizens to remember
and honor the veterans from Washington City who have bravely served and
protected our country in conflicts that threatened our way of life. The
monument's purpose is to provide a place in the community where citizens
can gather to celebrate those who have sacrificed for our freedom. The
statue depicts a tired soldier honoring his fallen comrade. Each year,
on Memorial Day and again on Veterans Day, a special program will be
held to honor our veterans.
Currently,
the monument committee is in the process of recording names of veterans
from Washington City. These names will be placed on paving bricks and
used to pave a Veterans Pathway which leads to the monument. All
veterans or their families currently living in Washington City or with
roots to Washington City are encouraged to contact Dustin
at the city offices, 656-6322, to be recorded.
