Washington City Government

The City Council consists of the Mayor and five Council members who are all elected at large. Washington City has a Council/Mayor form of government with a part time Mayor, the mayor only votes in the event of a tie. The Mayor and Council members serve staggered four-year terms on a part-time basis. Elections in Washington City are non-partisan.

Message from Mayor Kenneth Neilson....

The blossoms are out. Lawn mowers and rototillers can be heard running in my neighborhood. It really is good to hear the sounds of spring again. What a fantastic time of year.

Don't we live in an amazing part of this world? Look around you, doesn't everybody seem happier? All of us on this planet want to be happy. Everything that anyone desires is because we think that desire will make us happy. Whether it's health, a loving relationship, family, friends, wealth, material things, accomplishments, a job, recognition from peers, or anything at all, that desire for happiness is the bottom line for all of them.

May I suggest that true happiness is a state inside of us, and anything we seek on the outside only brings temporary happiness, because all material things are never permanent. Permanent happiness comes from you choosing to be permanently happy. When you choose happiness, then you attract all the happy things as well. All those happy things you attract are just the icing on the cake, but true happiness IS the cake.

Where are you on your happy meter? Are you looking for ways to help yourself, your family, friends and neighborhoods? Surprise everyone around you today and to something that will make THEM happy. See what that does for you.
